Primary education is a stage that concerns all of the developmental aspects (motor, psychological, academic, social, etc.) of children between the ages of 6 and 11 years old. This stage is vital with regard to the evolution of students´ personal autonomy, self-confidence and self-esteem. Moreover, students will learn to competently face and partake in an array of different tasks, and they will enjoy playing games and making friends.
Apart from the basic curriculum, our centre also adds other subjects and activties: swimming and psychomotor activities in aquatic environments, chess, philosophy for children, English conversational classes with native teachers, scenic arts (theatre, dance), preparation for official cambridge exams, German and French from the third year onwards, etc.
The students ´ knowledge broadens through the development of skills related to reading, writing, logic, analysis, calculus and languages, which, together, contribute to generating vital information that will be usefull for the pupils throughout their entire lives.
The pupils of primary education perform psychomotor activities in terrestrial and aquatic environments. These activities are developed by professionals who are specialized in the field of physical education (PE), and they take place in the climatized swimming pool, on the sports courts and fields and in the indoor sports hall.
These activities are orientated towards helping students develop communicative skills in English, French and German.
From the first year, students will expand and develop their knowledge of the English language on a daily basis. On one side, children will study English as a foreign language and, on the other side, they will use English as a first language. Doing this, the objective is that the two languages coexist in students’ lives.
From the third year, students may study one more language: French or German.
These activities are designed to develop students’ knowledge of music. Moreover, they will also enhance artistic, logical-mathematical and aesthetic aspects. In these activities, the study of music language and musical instruments is also included (piano, violin, flute).
Philosphy for children
Philosophy for children, which follows the methods of Lipman, is an educational project based on active participation, which is designed to stimulate and develop complex thinking in Primary students.
Using books, such as “Kio and Gus”, “Pixie” and “Harry’s discovery”, focus is centred upon various topics related to the world, society and human beings. .
Through chess, we work on the development of mental structures, spatial abilities, paying attention and memory. This is an activity that students tend to like, due to the fact that it also teaches them to respect their rivals.
Learning the rules and the different movements of this game ensures that students remain concentrated throughout the development of each session.
Through theatrical activities, all students will work on their confidence and sense of security. By way of practical and creative sessions, the children will begin to outline their personality and they will confront their fears in relation to talking in public. Moroever, being that they will have to interpret a wide array of different roles and emotions, they will also be able to develop their sense of humour, as well as that of empathy.
This activity includes sports and art, motor coordination and rythm, and technical and aesthetic aspects of dance.
Apart from being a fun activity, dance could be considered as a manner of expression through movement, which favours the development of spatial awareness and the elegance of posture.
SAM Restaurant is a project focused on teaching children good eating manners. This activity, which is popular amongst our primary students, promotes habits and behavioural patterns that will be essential in all students´ lives. It is no surprise that people are normally judged upon their table manners, and, consequently, it is essential that children learn about the correct posture and patterns of behaviour they must adopt when at the table.
In our centre, we do not just teach language and mathematics, but we also try to be an example for students in relation to mannerisms, so that they can be considered as educated and mannered individuals in the future.
This activity takes place in groups of approximately 8 students. Each group in the primary education stage performs this activity various times throughout the year. At dinner time, the pupils make their way to the dinner hall, where they are assigned an exclusive table for their stage in the education system. The plates, cutlery, glasses and serviettes are provided by the restaurant. In this environment, the students enjoy eating their food while learning to adequately use the cutlery, to sit correctly and to respect other people´s turn whilst speaking.
