Primary Education

San Alberto Magno School > Primary Education

What’s the Primary Education Stage?

Primary education covers the training of children from 6 to 11 years.

This stage is vital for the development of personal autonomy, self-esteem, self-confidence, to feel competent when facing and successfully carrying out various tasks, to enjoy the first friendships…

We believe in enhancing a solid understanding of a wide range of subjects, a love of learning and an enthusiasm for new experiences. Our academic curriculum is designed to reach your maximum potential and lay the foundation for your future studies.

Classes are small and have a richly varied environment with students from all over the world. Often their first language is not English, so we reinforce the language to make integration as quick as possible.

How do we work in Primary Education?

Knowledge is broadened through the development of reading, writing, logic, analysis, calculation and languages, which contribute to generating a set of learnings that are important for life.

Complementing the basic curriculum, our center adds other subjects and activities:

  • Psychomotricity

Swimming and psychomotor skills in aquatic and terrestrial environments. These activities take place in the heated swimming pool, on the outdoor sports grounds and in the indoor sports pavilion.
  • English

Stage in which the student assimilates a total immersion in English through conversation in English (Speaking) with native teachers and subjects such as Natural Science, Social Science, Art & Crafts and Music taught in English. From the third year onwards, students start studying another language: French or German, at their choice. The preparation for the official Cambridge, German or French exams begins after the third year.

Preparation for the official Cambridge, German or French exams begins after the third year.
  • Music

The activity started in Infant continues until the third year of primary school. The violin and piano are compulsory instruments and we integrate the study of musical and instrumental language (piano, violin, flute).
  • School Canteen and SAM restaurant

The SAM Restaurant is a good manners project at lunch time. This activity is very popular among primary school students promotes good manners and behaviours that are necessary in their lives.

The activity takes place in groups from 6 to 8 students. On a rotational basis, among all primary school pupils, each group participates in the activity several times throughout the school year. In this environment, students enjoy food while learning to use cutlery, to sit correctly and to respect speaking turns, among many other objectives.
  • Chess

Chess is used to work on mental structure, spatial ability, attention and memory. It is an activity that is very gratifying for the students, since through dynamics of game the respect for the rival is worked.
  • Philosophy for children

It is an educational project aimed to stimulate and develop a complex thought. This educational proposal follows Lipman’s method which consists of the creation of a rational thought and creative workshops through a philosophical discussion using philosophical novels and books that for primary are: "Kio and Gus", "Pixie" and "The discovery of Harry". With these books we approach subjects related to the world, society and the human being, from the perspective of the students. The methodology applied in San Alberto Magno is based on active participation.
  • Dance and body expression

This activity integrates sport and art, motor coordination and rhythm, technical and aesthetic aspects. In addition to being a fun activity, dance promotes the development of spatial awareness, concentration, elegance of posture and gestures and is a form of expression through movement.
  • Theatre

Through this activity we work on the self-confidence of each child and self-concept. Through practical and creative sessions, students outline their personality and face their personal fears in relation to exposure to the public, develop a sense of humour and empathy, having to interpret different roles, emotions and attitudes. In addition, it is fundamental for activities that they will develop later in Secondary, such as oratory or debates.
